The incident took place Wednesday afternoon in front of the Sunrise Plaza shopping mall near the Asad Gate on Mirpur Road.
A bus and a covered van caught fire due to explosion, said witnesses.
Two fire-fighting units rushed in and doused the fire.
According to unconfirmed reports, at least eight people were injured as passengers of the bus rushed to safety.
Authorities have blocked the part of the road.
“There was a leak in the underground pipeline. Repair works are set to start soon. Our people are on the spot. Gas supply has been stopped in the adjacent area,” Titas Director (operations) Md Kamruzzaman told Bangla Tribune.
Bangla Tribune’s Dhaka Medical College and Hospital Correspondent Aminul Islam confirmed a rickshaw puller Md Shahid has been admitted to the hospital with burn injuries sustained during the incident.
