Gas supply disrupted in the capital

Gas supply to a large part of the capital including Ashulia, Savar, Mirpur and Mohammadpur has been disrupted since early hours of Saturday (Feb 16) as a gas line was snapped in Ashulia.

After Friday midnight, a gas supply line at the Ashulia Gas Transmission Company (GTCL) broke resulting in the outage which left thousands in massive suffering.

“It took time to identify the place where the line broke. However, GTCL has been working since the morning to repair the damage which may take upto 24 hours,” said TITAS Director (Operations) Md Kamruzzaman.

As a result of the incident gas flow were reported to be very low at the capitals Dhanmondi, Gabtoli, Savar, Ashulia and adjacent areas.

In Mirpur and Mohammadpur, however, the gas supply was reported entirely off.

Meanwhile, GTCL has informed in a press release that gas supply from the Ashulia abd Aminbazar CGS plants to TITAS gas system will remain shut for the next 24 hours for the emergency maintenance work.

Therefore, residents in Ashulia, Savar, Aminbazar, Gabtoli, Mirpur, Paikpara, Pirerbagh, Kalyanpur, Shyamoli, Ring Road, Monsurabad, Kaderabad, Mohammadpur, Lamatia, Dhanmondi, Azimpur, Hazaribag and adjacent areas will experience no gas supply or low pressure in gas flow, the release added.
