Chhatra Dal made a seven points demand and called for a re-scheduling of the DUCSU elections. The demands were made on 13 February, Wednesday afternoon at the Modhur Canteen of Dhaka University.

The demands include, having voting centres outside the halls, removal of age barrier and balancing the ‘undemocratic’ power of the DUCSU president.

Chhatra Dal president, Rajib Ahsan, said: “the DUCSU election will be held and we are looking at it positively; but hopefully, before election, the administration will accept our logical demands.”

After a hiatus of 28 years, the Dhaka University Central Students Union, DUCSU election, will be held on 11 March next. Candidates will vie for 25 posts.

After the press conference, Chhatra Dal general secretary, said: “we hope that co-existence will be ensured and we want a re-scheduling until full co-existence is assured.”

Earlier, on 7 February, Chhatra Dal brought out a procession after nine years; on that day, they also met the VC and had an hour long meeting.

They presented an MoU to the VC containing their demands, including a call to defer the DUCSU polls by three months.

Chhatra Dal’s last rally within Dhaka University campus was in January 2010.
At that time they came under attack from Chhatra League activists and several persons were injured. To mark the attack, Chhatra Dal tried to bring out a procession the following year but failed. tf
