Children and grandchildren of freedom fighters (FFs) have called off their blockade at Dhaka’s Shahbagh intersection giving a seven-day ultimatum on the reinstatement of 30 percent quota for them in civil service jobs.
Protesters under the banner of ‘Muktijoddhar Santan and Projonmo’ cleared the intersection at around 9pm on Friday (Feb 8) nearly three hours after they staged the demonstration, halting vehicular movement on the city’s one of the busiest intersection.
At the demonstration, they placed a six-point demand.
Their other demands include ensuring punishment of those defamed the Father of the Nation, his family members and freedom fighters, confiscating the property of Razakars, disqualifying their children for government jobs and terminating those currently in service, ensuring freedom fighters’ constitutional recognition and enacting their family protection law, and proportionately increasing the age limit of the children and descendants of freedom fighters for government jobs.
They, however, would go for tougher movement if their demands are not met, convener of Muktijoddhar Santan and Projonmo Aminul Islam Bulbul told Bangla Tribune.
