The BNP student affiliate Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has shown its presence on Dhaka University campus after about nine years.
On Thursday (Feb 7), JDC members brought out the procession from the DU Vice-Chancellor's office parading the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) and ended at Shahbag intersection.

Back in 2010, the JCD was last seen on the DU campus when its central leaders came under an attack by ruling Awami League’s student front Bangladesh Chattra League.
The attack on Jan 18 that year left several people injured including then-JCD central president Sultan Salauddin Tuku.
Since then, the JCD leaders went on the run fearing arrest and harassment.

Prior to the precession, JCD submitted a memorandum to Vice Chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman placing its seven-point demand on the DU Central Students Union (DUCSU) election.
The JCD demanded the polls be deferred by three months.
Their other demands include setting up polling centres to academic buildings to ensure participatory election, revoking revised 30 years age limit, and ensuring no harassment to student leaders by law enforcement agencies.
DU VC Akhtaruzzaman categorically said they would hold the polls by the book.
“The DUCSU election will be held in line with the specific charter and electoral code of conducts, which are equally applicable to all the DU students,” he told the reporters.
Akhtaruzzaman also informed that the JCD have been asked to carry out its organizational activities on the campus.
“No extremist or banned outfit can be operated on the campus,” he said.
Speaking to media after the meeting the DU VC, JCD central President Rajib Ahsan said, “We wholeheartedly want the DUCSU polls to be held. But, at first, coexistence must be ensured.”
DU JCD unit president Mehedi Talukdar said “There is no hurry in holding the election. This election won’t be participatory in any way.
“Taking three more months for preparation will ensure a fair election,” he said.
