Representational ImageSubal Chandra Das, father of violated 5-year-old Puja lodged a case but two and a half years later, he is yet to get justice.

A dejected Das says that he had to incur huge expenses to go to court in Dinajpur from Parvatipur.

The case has not seen any significant progress in the last two and a half years and the deposition to be taken on Jan 13 did not happen, says Das.

The child was violated on Oct 18, 2016, and was later admitted to the Parvatipur Hospital and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Her father accused Saiful, a local youngster who was arrested after seven days and the deposition began one and a half years later in Apr 2018.

Lawyer Taiyoba Begum says, “The main accused Saiful is in prison whereas the other person is on bail and attending the hearings.”

Regarding the delay, she said that for six months, the operation of the court was suspended.

Puja’s father lamented, “My daughter is getting older, yet the trial has not finished until now although the authority promised of swift justice when the episode happened.”

He also complained that dates for hearing are delayed repeatedly which discourages the plaintiff.

“Such delay creates the idea among perpetrators that they can commit a crime and get away without facing justice.”
