Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained five people for allegedly committing fraud on Facebook using the name of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her family members and other national leaders.

The detainees were held in several raids conducted at Moghbazar, Demra, Mohammadpur, Keraniganj and Savar late on Wednesday (Jan 16), said RAB media wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan at a media briefing at its media center offices in capital's Kawran Bazar on Thursday (Jan 17).

The detainees are Md Omar Faruk, 30, Md Sabbir Hossain, 24, Md Al Amin, 27, Md Aminul Islam, 25 and Md Monir Hossain, 29.

They were using fake Facebook profiles to extort money and spread anti-state propaganda, added the elite force official.
