HC orders three to surrender over Pubali Bank fraud

Supreme Court of Bangladesh. BANGLATRIBUNE/Sazzad HossainThe High Court has ordered three Pubali Bank embezzlement suspects to surrender before the Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Court within two weeks.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam gave the orders on Wednesday (Jan 16), after scrapping their bail pleas.
The suspects are Messrs SM Traders owner Md Ilias, Sajeda Enterprise owner Abu Syed and Messrs Meem Trade International owner Sheikh Mohammad Obaidullah.
Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik and Assistant Attorney General Helena Begum China moved for the state. Meanwhile, Md Khurshid Alam moved for Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) and Momtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi was the defendants’ counsel.
According to the case dossiers, the three suspects took out over Tk 128 million in their company’s name form a branch of the state-owned Pubali Bank and embezzled the money.
After a probe, the bank’s Deputy Managing Director Manzurul Islam Majumder filed a case against three bank employees and the three businessmen on Jan 13.
