Teachers are claiming that as per the 2018 MPO policy, their salaries have fallen.
In the past, teachers had the chance to be elevated to 7th grade with promotions within eight years but in the new policy, lecturers will get that grade in ten years.
The 2018 MPO rule 11.4 states that lecturers under MPO will get promotion based on seniority in 5,2 ratio after completion of eight years. Other lecturers will be elevated from grade 9 to 8 after completion of ten years satisfactory service.
Principal of the Rajshahi Arani Women’s College, Shahbaz Ali, told Bangla Tribune, “In that system, a lecturer’s salary will rise by a mere Tk 1 thousand in one year.”
In the ninth grade, a lecturer’s salary is Tk 22,000 which is one thousand more in grade eight. After 16 years, the salary in grade seven will be Tk 29,000.
However, once a lecturer becomes an assistant professor, the salary will be Tk 45,500 in grade six.
Lecturer of Bornomala School and College, Rashedul Islam, said, “The selection grade was not given in the 2015 national salary structure; as a result, elevation from grade 9 to grade 8 will be delayed by three years.”
However, additional secretary of the ministry of education, Jabed Ahmed, said that the policy is being amended.
“There have been several meetings to change grades and to bring in some needed reforms; the work will be finalised in one month.”
