Police arrested 28-year-old Wasim early on Thursday (Jan 10) from the capital’s Pallabi.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner Abdul Baten confirmed that Wasim has confessed to torching police vehicles during the clash between BNP activists and police on Nov 14.
He said that Police are yet to investigate Wasim’s role in BNP but video footage showed him torching a police vehicle during the clash.
“Three cases were filed, accusing 90 people for the clash and torching of police vehicles in front of BNP’s Naya Paltan headquarters,” he told the media on Wednesday.
He added that they went through video footage of the clash and after probing identified the perpetrator.
Dismissing BNP’s claims that it was actually Awami League activists in helmets who vandalized and torched vehicles, Baten said that the probe has revealed BNP’ involvement in the case.
Responding to queries about who else was involved, he said that the case was still under investigation.
