BRTC staffers have called off the two day strike after being assured that their outstanding wages will be paid graduallyBangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has called off the strike at Dhaka Khilkhet’s Joarshahara bus depot.
“BRTC chairman has assured that everyone’s salary for one month will be wired to the accounts by this afternoon,” said Joarshara depot manager Nur-e-Alam.
He added that the workers have been assured that they will be paid one month’s arrear by this afternoon, another month’s arrear within Jan 31 and in this manner they would receive a total of nine months’ arrears.
Immediately after the announcement, the drivers took out the buses and went back to work.
Earlier on Wednesday, BRTC workers are continued their strike for the second day, demanding outstanding wages of nine months.
They alleged that while the top officials were being paid, the drivers’ dues were not being paid.
