Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid faces Viqarunnisa protesters in the aftermath of Aritree Adhikari`s suicide on Dec 4. FACEBOOK/Mahbub ALam.The governing body of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College has sacked three of its teachers, including the principal after the suicide of a ninth-grader, which sparked fury among students and parents.

The move came after the education ministry asked the governing body to suspend acting principal Nazneen Ferdous and two teachers—shift-in-charge of morning shift Zinat Akhtar and class teacher Hasna Hena.

“The governing body members sat for a meeting after the instruction by the ministry and education board came. The principal, who serves as the body’s secretary, was not called in the meeting as allegations have surfaced against her as well,” its Chairman Golam Ashraf Talukder told Bangla Tribune.

He added that departmental actions will be initiated against them gradually.

The body also rescheduled the suspended exams of Wednesday and Thursday to Dec 7 (Friday) and Dec 11 (Tuesday) respectively, the governing body member Ataur Rahman told Bangla Tribune.

The exams will be held in line with the previous schedule from Saturday, he added.

Earlier in the day, the ministry sent letters to RAB and police urging to take legal steps against three teachers.

The letters were sent to the director general of Rab and DMP commissioner this afternoon. The ministry also sent letters to the chairman of Dhaka Education Board and director general of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education seeking departmental action and suspension of their wages respectively.

The ministry has also decided to cancel the teachers' MPOs, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said while addressing a press briefing at his secretariat office on Wednesday.

The minister was briefing the media about the investigation report of the ministry's three-member probe committee headed by Prof Yusuf, director of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education.
