The people who attacked the police during the Naya Paltan clash on Wednesday have been identified, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia.
“The attackers are all activists of BNP and its member organizations,” he told the media on Thursday (Nov 15).
“A total of 23 people were injured along with five police officers during the clash. They are all undergoing treatment,” he added.
He also said that the youth who torched the police vehicles has been identified as Shahjalal Khandakar who is a member of BNP’s student wing Chatradal.
The commissioner said that almost 60 people have been arrested in relation to the incident, adding, “This is not just an attack on police. We fear that they were planning something bigger than this.”
He also said that the Detective Branch and Motijheel crime division has been given the responsibility to investigate the matter.
