Former Supreme Court judge AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik has questioned the role of Jatiya Oikya Front leader Dr Kamal Hossain in the Liberation War, calling the Gano Forum chief a ‘Rajakar.’
Justice Manik was speaking at a discussion organised by the Bangladesh Online Activist Forum in the city’s National Press Club on Friday (Nov 2).
Citing an article by Pakistan’s General Mitta Khan published in a magazine, “Defence Journal” in 2008, the retired Supreme Court judge said, “Dr Kamal phoned Mitta Khan on Mar 28, 1971, for help.
“Everyone has gone to India. I don’t want to go. I won’t fight in the (Liberation) war. Freedom fighters will kill me; please save me,” Justice Manik quoted Dr Kamal as saying.
The former justice further said, “Then Mitta Khan sheltered Dr Kamal Hosssain in the army’s divisional headquarters and sent him to Pakistan on Mar 29, 1971.”
Dr Kamal stayed in Pakistan throughout the nine-month-long Independence War, according to justice Manik.
Citing ISI a very cunning intelligence agency, justice Manik said, “When they (Pakistan) sent back Bangabandhu to Bangladesh, they boarded Kamal Hossain onto the same plane. This is the history of Kamal Hossain. He is a Rjakar (a collaborator of Pakistan army).

“Let me tell you straight Dr Kamal Hossain is a Rajakar,” Manik insisted.
The former justice said, “Whom has Dr Kamal Hossain formed alliance with today? He forged an alliance with anti-liberation forces.
“But I was not surprised because Kamal Hossain is one of them,” said Manik.
