BNP’s Moudud sued for libelA libel suit has been filed against senior BNP leader Moudud Ahmad over remarks on two former leaders of the party’s student front Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in one of his books, “Chalman Rajninti”.
Former JCD joint convener Sanaul Haque Niru filed the Tk 1 billion libel suit against Moudud with a Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on Tuesday (Oct 30).
Publisher of the book Mohiuddin Ahmed and typist Nazmul Haque were also named in the lawsuit along with Moudud, a member of BNP’s policymaking National Standing Committee.
After hearing the matter, the court ordered Motijheel police OC to investigate into the allegation and file a report by Nov 30.
Citing the case statement, Niru’s counsel Pradip Debnath said, “Modud called JCD leaders Niru and Golam Faruk ‘militant’ and ‘hooligan’ in his book.”
Modud’s book discusses the country’s political situations from 1983 to 1990.
Back in 1980s, Niru was involved with the JCD but he was expelled in 1990 for violating party discipline.
In 2008, he joined AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury-led Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh and contested the national poll on its ticket from Narsingdi-4 constituency.
