Hazrat Shahjalal International AirportNo other agencies but the Customs will have the authority to check passengers at the Dhaka Airport from now on.

Ministry of civil aviation and tourism has issued a directive in that regard following the decision made in a meeting presided over by Nazibur Rahman, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister on Wednesday (Sept 3).

According to the new decision, taken in an effort to improve the quality of services at the airport, other law-enforcing agencies are not authorised to check passengers and their baggage once the Customs’ screening is done.

Should they have any specific intelligence, the checking must be conducted at the Customs checking point.

“All agencies have been informed about the new decision. The customs officials will conduct the screening process at the green channel and no checking can be done elsewhere at the airport.” Customs House Deputy Commissioner Othello Chowdhury told Bangla Tribune.

“Passengers face a lot of hassles due to checking on multiple occasions by more than one agency and this decision was taken to lessen their trouble,” added Chowdhury.
