Greenland Polytechnic InstituteAmong the 189 educational institutes that were found to only exist in papers, 20 were listed with Dhaka addresses. Among those, three have been identified to be located in the city — Uttara Laboratory High School, Bangladesh Textile Engineering College and Greenland Polytechnic Institute. These three institutes were found to be not only existing but well operational for years.
Authorities of these institutes say there must have been some mistake when the list was made. Government officials are saying that, field officials didn’t find those institutes causing them to make it to the list.
Greenland Polytechnic Institute is located at Demra’s Amulia Model Town and it has been operational since 2010. The institute offers courses on Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Automobile Engineering.
Principal of Greenland Polytechnic Samshul Alam told Bangla Tribune, “138 students took admission this year making total number of students approximately 400. Besides, our female students get receives scholarships from the World Bank every year. Half of the male students also get scholarships. I have no clue how this institute can be listed to exist only in papers.”
“This is operating upon the Technical Education Board’s approval. I think the list makers must have made a mistake. ”
Authorities of Uttara Laboratory High School and Bangladesh Textile Engineering College have said the same thing.
Jashim Uddin, Principal at the Uttara Laboratory High School told Bangla Tribune that, it was established in 1999 and got approval to offer education at May 30, 2010. Its Educational Institution Identification Number (EIIN) is 134083.
Bangladesh Textile Engineering College Principal Nasrin Bithi told Bangla Tribune that people who are saying it to be non-esxistent must be mistaken as the college has been offering education with a goodwill for a long time.
Uttara Education Office Sabikunnahar told Bangla Tribune that, names of institutes which weren’t found were sent to the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE).
Earlier in the year DSHE found names of 189 high schools, college and madarasas that were said to only exist in documents.
