Dhaka second least liveable city

DhakaDhaka has been ranked as the second least liveable city in the world, only ahead of war-laden Syria’s Damascus, according to Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

On the other side, Vienna came out as the most liveable city, the first European metropolis to clinch the top spot in EIU’s Global Liveability Index.

Melbourne slipped to the second spot after being at the top for a straight seven years.

Dhaka ranked 139 among the 140 cities evaluated based on four factors— stability, healthcare, culture and environment, and education and infrastructure.

The Bangladeshi capital scored 38 out of 100.

Rest of cities in the top ten in order of most liveability are Osaka (Japan), Calgary (Canada), Sydney (Australia), Vancouver (Canada), Tokyo (Japan), Toronto (Canada), Copenhagen (Denmark) and Adelaide (Australia).

In bottom ten after Damascus and Dhaka are Port Moresby (PNG), Lagos (Nigeria), Karachi (Pakistan), Algiers (Algeria), Harare (Zimbabwe), Douala (Cameroon), Tripoli (Libya) and Abidjan (Cote d’Ivore).
