Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said he hopes the perpetrators behind the attacks on journalists covering protests for safer roads will be arrested by Saturday.

During a meeting with representatives of journalists’ union on Thursday, he said that the government will bear the expenses for medical treatment of the injured newsmen.

The journalist leaders told Inu that some people in the government as well as Awami League are trying to insinuate that the attackers were Jamaat-Shibir members who infiltrated Chatra League. If that’s the case, the law-enforcers should bring them to justice to reveal the truth, they said.

State Minister for Information Tarana Halim, Information Secretary Abdul Malek, Chief Information Officer Kamrun Nahar, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) President Molla Jalal and General Secretary Shaban Mahmud, Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) President Abu Zafar Surjo and General Secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury were present among others.
