Govt warns of stern actions against salt rumors

FOCUS BANGLAAmid growing rumours of a crisis of salt triggering panic buying, the government said it would to take stern legal actions against rumour mongers.
A certain quarter is out to spread rumours, it said in a statement on Tuesday (Nov 19). "There are evil attempts to spread rumours about the supply of salt."
Referring to the industries ministry's statement earlier in day assuring of adequate salt in stock, it said that there no possibilities of a supply crunch.
“Tough legal actions await for any individual or group trying to spread rumours about salt or anything else on social media or in any other way,” reads the statement.
Salt prices started to shoot up soon after rumours started to swirl on Tuesday morning triggering a panic buying.
Consumers were seen thronging shops at different parts in capital Dhaka’s as well as other parts of the country for buying and stocking salt following the rumour that the price of salt is soaring up.
