President appoints Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain as CJ

Justice Syed Mahmud HossainPresident M Abdul Hamid today (Feb 2) appointed Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, a judge of the Supreme Court's Appellate Division, as the 22nd chief justice of Bangladesh.
"The oath-taking ceremony of the new chief justice will be held at Bangabhaban at 7 pm tomorrow (Saturday)," President's Press Secretary Mohammad Joynal Abedin said here this afternoon.
The President cleared his appointment today, he added.
The post of the chief justice fell vacant after chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha resigned on November 10 last year following his leave on health grounds in October.
Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, the most senior judge of the Appellate Division, has been performing functions as the CJ from October 3 last year.
