A glimpse of the government’s success in one year

FILE PHOTOIn the just concluded 2018-19 fiscal year, per capita income has risen from $1751 to $1909; at the same time, growth in revenue has been 16.87 percent.
In this fiscal year, revenue collection has been Tk 2518.36 billion. Products worth $46.87 billion were exported, which is 14.29 percent more than last year, informs the yearly reports of the ministries.
The report was approved by the 17th cabinet meeting on Monday (Oct 21).
In the 2018-19 fiscal year, foreign investment has been $ 3.889 billion which is 50.73 percent more than last year. In the same period, investment in BEPZA has been $ 332.22 million.
At the 8 EPZs, employment has been generated for 19548 persons in 458 organisations.
During this time, 30.6 km highway has been elevated to four lanes; 894.72 km highway has undergone surfacing; 1636.60 km highway has been widened, 128 bridges plus 561 culverts constructed.
Two new planes have been added to national carrier, Biman, 352.197 million copies of books were distributed free of cost.
Other achievements include: establishment of medical colleges in Naogao, Nilfamari, Magura, Chadpur and Netrokona. In this fiscal year, modern equipment has been bought for law enforcing agencies, Naval operation jetty named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been commissioned, five anti-terrorism tribunals were set up in Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet and Rangpur.
The monitoring of PM’s special flagship programmes has been done while prime-minister Sheikh Hasina received the humanitarian award, special distinction award, vaccine hero award and champion of youth skill development for youth award.
Looking at the overall development, former adviser to the caretaker government, Dr A B M Mirza Azizul Islam, said: “the country is moving forward, to sustain this progress, good governance has to be ensured.”
Planning minister M A Mannan, said: “Such achievements have been possible for ensuring accountability of the government and more will be attained in the future.”
