Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud addresses a progamme at a Dhaka hotel on Friday (Jul 19). PIDNo appeal for parole has been made on incarcerated BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s parole, said Information Minister Hasan Mahmud.
“Khaleda Zia can be free on bail or if she is acquitted,” he said while briefing the media at his secretariat office on Thursday (Oct 3).
Saying that she has been imprisoned for corruption, he added, “No appeal to free her on parole has been made.”
The minister said that Khaleda’s matter will progress in keeping with legal proceedings. “The BNP says that they will free her through movement but in reality they don’t have the strength for that.”
Mahmud said that she hasn’t been imprisoned on politically motivated cases and “she has been punished after the allegations were proved in court.”
The minister blamed the BNP for the Aug 21 grenade attack and said that it was proved through WikiLeaks.
“Tarique Rahman was the mastermind of the Aug 21 grenade attack and it happened in full knowledge of Khaleda Zia,” he said.
