BNP and banned political party Jamaat-e-Islami are responsible for the political wall with Awami League, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
His remarks came on Sunday (Aug 25) while during a discussion meeting at a private university in Dhaka.
“BNP founder Ziaur Rahman rewarded the perpetrators of Aug 15 murder and the Aug 21 grenade attack was carried out jointly by BNP-Jamaat,” he said.
“That’s why their ties with Awami League deteriorated. Now the parties can’t attend the social gatherings of one another,” he added.
Saying that Ziaur Rahman aided the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he added, “How do we forget that history? Aug 15 and the subsequent incidents created an uncrossable wall that became taller after Aug 21.”
Quader who also serves as the ruling party General Secretary said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had tried to maintain professional relations by attempting to personally pay her condolences at the death of BNP chief’s son’s death but was turned away.
