The first grant goes to Institute of Palliative Medicine on Thursday (Aug 15) to give round-the-year treatment to a number of cancer patients.Bangladesh High Commission in Colombo has introduced Bangabandhu Memorial Grant to connect with the host community and also spread the name of the legendary leader in every nook and cranny of Sri Lanka.
The first grant went to Institute of Palliative Medicine on Thursday (Aug 15) to give round-the-year treatment to a number of cancer patients and the high commission is planning to widen the scope and make similar arrangements to other institutions.
The high commission also had a special long-term arrangement with leading Bangladeshi oncology pharmaceutical company under which Beacon Pharma will offer one cancer drug-free for every two drugs purchased.
“This unique grant was instituted to underline the empathy and love Bangabandhu held throughout his life for distressed people, anywhere,” High Commissioner Riaz Hamidullah told Bangla Tribune.
This dedication is not just one-off as I am going to roll out a couple of more grants here, he said.
“We have selected the National Mourning Day to launch the grant to underline the sombre occasion,” the high commissioner said.
