Road crashes kill 35 across the country

Nine died on the spot following the crash.Road accidents across the country claimed at least 35 lives early Saturday.
Among the victims, 18 were killed in Gaibandha, six in Rangpur, three in Gopalganj, two each in Natore, Faridpur and Sirajganj districts and one in Dhaka's Savar and Tangail.
Gaibandha
In a massive road accident in Gaibandha, 18 people were killed when a bus plunged into a ditch in the early hours of Saturday, said the OC of Palshbari Police Station Mahmudul Alam.
Nine died on the spot while seven others died while they were taken to the hospitals or given treatment.
The OC feared that casualty might go up.
The injured persons were sent to different hospitals, he said.
He said a Panchagarh-bound bus lost its control in Palashbari’s Moheshpur area on Dhaka-Rangpur highway and fell into the ditch.
The details of the casualties are yet to be known, he added.

At least six people, including two women, were killed and ten others injured as a truck hit a bus at Shayelashah Bazar in Paglapir area around 3am.
The accident took place when the sand-laden truck hit the stationary BRTC double-decker bus, leaving six passengers of the bus dead on the spot, said Saiful officer of Taraganj Highway Police.
One among the deceased was identified as Nishat by her relatives.
Sirajganj
At least two people were killed and ten others were injured following a head-on collision between a truck and a bus on Dhaka-Bogura highway in Kaliakapur area of Raiganj Upazila around 5:45am, said Abdul Kader Zilani, officer-in-charge of Hatikumrul Highway Police.
The victims were identified as the truck driver Shafiqul Islam, 35 and his assistant Rafiqul Islam, 25.

Two people were killed and three others injured when a truck hit an easy-bike in Komlapur area of the district town around 6:30am on Saturday, said Mohiuddin, station officer of Natore Fire Service.
The victims were identified as Sulta Rani, 45 and Kanai Chandra, 40, both hailed from Naldanga Upazila .
Police seized the truck but the driver and the assistant managed to escape.


Gopalganj
Three people died and another 20 injured as a bus hit a number of rickshaws, rickshaw-van and three-wheelers at Ghonaprar of Gopalganj on Saturday.
Goplaganj police OC Monirul Islam told newsmen that a Goplaganj-bound local bus lost its control at Ghonapara bus stop and ran over a number of rickshaws, rickshaw-van and three-wheelers.
Two people died on the spot and 20 more sustained injuries, he added.
Ten of the injured were admitted to Gopalganj General Hospital and others were released after first aid, he further added.

Faridpur
Two people were killed and 20 others injured as a bus plunged into a roadside ditch on Dhaka-Barisal highway in Purba Sadardi area of Bhanga around 9:am on Saturday, said the Bhanga Highway Police OC Ezazul Islam.
The victims were identified as the bus driver Ibrahim, 38 and his assistant Hafiz, 32.
The injured were admitted to the Bhanga General Hospital, police said.

Savar


A Dhaka-bound bus hit a truck at Amin Bazar area leaving one person died on the spot and 20 others injured, said the police sub-inspector of Savar Model Police Station Enamul Haque.


The injured were taken to the local and capital's Suhrawardy Hospital.

Tangail
A motorcyclist was killed in a road crash at Shokhipur Upazila in Tangail on Saturday, said the OC of Shokhipur Police Station SM Tuhin Ali.
The victim was identified as Abdul Baset, 28, hailed from Jitaswari area of the Upazila.
The accident took place when a bus and Baset’s motorcycle collided head-on in Toildhara neighbourhood on Shokhipur-Gopinpur road, police said.
Doctors declared him dead after being taken to the hospital.
Police seized the bus following the accident.
