Budget aims to contain inflation at 5.5 percent

NASHIRUL ISLAM/File PhotoThe government has set the average inflation rate at 5.5 percent in 2019-20 fiscal year, 0.1 percentage point down from the previous fiscal.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal proposed the target while unveiling Tk 5.23 trillion budget at the House on Thursday (Jun 13).
The government also eyes an 8.2 percent growth for the gross domestic product (GDP) in next fiscal, starting from Jul 1.
“We expect a GDP growth of 8.13 percent in FY2018-19. Our commitment is to achieve a growth rate of 10 percent by FY2023-24, and maintain that rate until 2041 so that we can lay a solid foundation for becoming a high income country by that time,” said Kamal.
