File Photo/Sazzad HossainThe Moon Sighting Committee of the Ministry of Religious Affairs has announced that Wednesday (Jun 5) is the Eid-ul-Fitr in Bangladesh.

This decision came in the second media briefing held by the committee headed by state minister of religious affairs Sheikh Md Abdullah, following an initial meeting late on Tuesday (Jun 4) at the Islamic Foundation’s Baitul Mukarram office in Dhaka.
Md Anisur Rahman, Secretary of Ministry of Religious Affairs confirmed the news to Bangla Tribune.

The committee announced the date of Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of Muslims, after reviewing information on the sighting of the moon of Shawwal month.
Initially, the apex body on this auspicious matter decided that the Shawwal moon was a no show. However, the committee changed it's position when people from a few northern districts claimed to have witnessed the moon of Shawwal month.
The main Eid congregation will be held at the Jatiya Eidgah Maidan at 8.30am.

Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Senior Pesh Imam Hafez Muhammad Mizanur Rahman will lead the first Eid Jamaat in Dhaka.
A total of 568 Eid congregations will be held in the capital under two city corporations on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Of those, 298 Eid congregations will be held under the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and the rest 270 Eid congregations under the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
