Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader speaking at a views exchange meeting on Sunday (May 25) Eid journey for holidaymakers will be easier and more comfortable this year, claimed Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
“There shouldn’t be any congestion on the roads if the divers follow traffic rules,” he told the media on Sunday (May 25) during a views exchange meeting.
Saying that it will be easier through areas where there is usually heavy traffic during Eid, he added, “But there is a bit of problem at the Gazipur road.
“I’ve already said that there will be no piling work on that street until Eid. There might be a little problem there.”
Quader, who also serves as the ruling Awami League’s General Secretary said that 271 new buses will be added to the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) fleet.
“In addition to the new buses a total of 1,089 buses will be on the streets during Eid,” he said.
On the lack of maintenance of the buses, he said, “The BRTC buses break down very quickly and so do the AC and the windows. Do the ones responsible for maintenance not see it?”
He added that as long as there isn’t order on the roads increasing the number of buses is futile.
“There have also been complaints of BRTC workers asking for more fare during Eid,” he said addressing the employees.
“If BRTC goes bankrupt so will you people,” he said and added, “I don’t want BRTC to be a bankrupt organisation.”
