Bangladesh has not stopped issuing visas to Pakistanis, said Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen.

His remarks came while speaking to the media on Tuesday (May 21) following media reports that the Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad has stopped issuing visas to Pakistanis.

“Bangladesh might not issue visas to individuals with suspected terrorist affiliations,” Momen said.

“But issuing visa to Pakistanis hasn’t stopped. The media reports were based on incorrect facts,” he added.

The minister said that it was Pakistan that wasn’t issuing visas to Bangladeshis.

“It’s true that some of our officers are not being issued visas. Especially in the consular section,” he said.

He added that Pakistan wasn’t issuing visas to people responsible for issuing visas. “Who will do the work?”

Responding to queries about why Bangladeshi officers weren’t getting visas, Momen said, “Ask them. I hope that the cases that are pending will soon be resolved.”

On Bangladesh not having a Pakistani envoy, he said, “They did send a candidate but his credentials were not accepted for some reason.

“Its regular procedure that they’ll send someone else but they didn’t. We’ll definitely consider it if they do.”

Momen said that the situation has not led to any crisis and that Bangladesh was working with Pakistan in all sectors.
