The committee will report  on Apr 17, said State Minister for Religious Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on Saturday (Apr 13).

The decision came from a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee earlier in the day.

Abdullah, who is also the chairman of the committee, presided over the meeting, held at the Islamic Foundation office at Baitul Mukarram.

An organization named Majlishu Ruiyatil Hilal claimed that there has been some mistake over the date of this year’s Shab-e-Barat.

Representatives of the organization were present in the meeting.

“A 10-member committee has been formed to clear the confusions,” said the minister.

The National Moon Sighting Committee announced on Apr 6 that the new moon for the Shaban month on the lunar Islamic calendar was not sighted on that day.

Following a meeting the same day the minister announced that Shab-e-Barat will be observed on Apr 21, which will be the 15th day of the Shaban month.

However, Majlishu Ruiyatil Hilal claimed that the moon was sighted on Apr 6, according to which the Shab-e-Barat is supposed to fall on the 20th.
