The incident was reported around 7am on Friday near Mohakahli Bus Terminal in the capital, said police.
“Former minister Memon was on his way to the Dhaka airport. A bus operated by ‘Balaka’ hit his vehicle at Mohakhali crossing point,” said Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Traffic Department (south) Md Ashrafullah.
“Traffic police detained the driver and his helper and handed over them to local Banani police,” he said.
Police also seized the bus (Dhaka Metro-B- 11-9684).
Following the incident, Menon filed a general diary with the local police.
“Police will start a case against 28-year-old driver Amanullah and his 50-year-old assistant Dulal Mia,” said Sub-Inspector Afzal Hossain of Banani police.
Memon car was hit just days after students had demonstrated protesting the death of a Bangladesh University of Professional student, who was run over by a bus Tuesday (Mar 19).

On Aug 11 last year, a bus also hit the car carrying Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan near the city’s Residential Model College more than week after the country saw a widespread campaign for safer road by students, following the death of two college students near the Dhaka airport.
