Supravat busAuthorities have banned Supravat and Jabal e Nur transport companies from operating buses, following road safety protests after road crashes.

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), in a notice on Wednesday, (Mar 20) said no Supravat or Jabal e Nur bus can run their bus services in the capital until further notice.

The authorities came up with the decision a day after BRTA suspended the registration of a bus that crushed a student of the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) to death in front of Jamuna Future Park at capital’s Nodda, triggering a countrywide protests by students.

The two transport companies have been asked to submit papers of all their buses and minibuses to BRTA within three working days.

They will have to submit registration and fitness certificates, route permit, tax token, insurance certificate and some other documents to the BRTA.

BRTA, along with Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), will check the documents and take a decision later, according to the notice signed by BRTA Deputy Director Shafikuzzaman Bhuiyan.

Supravat operates buses on the route from Uttara’s Raniganj to Sadarghat (route no. 138) while Jabal e Nur runs buses on Bosila to Abdullahpur route (route no. 184).

Similar student protests for road safety had brought traffic in Dhaka to a halt for days after two college students were run over and killed during a race between two buses of Jabale Nur at capital’s airport road last year.

The Jabal e Nur busses lost route permit at that time.
