Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that she will visit the new Kanchpur Bridge with Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Qader after he recovers.
Her remarks came on Saturday (Mar 16) while inaugurating the second Kanchpur Bridge across Shitalakkhya River through video conference.
The nearly 400m bridge is expected to reduce congestion on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway significantly, reports UNB.
She also inaugurated a four-lane flyover at Bhulta and a railway overpass at Latifpur on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway.
The brand new four-lane bridge is 397.3m long and 18.1m wide, at a construction cost of nearly Tk 10 billion.
Japanese contractors Obayshi Corporation, Shimizu Corporation, JFE Engineer Corporation, and IHI Infra Systems Company Limited, started construction of the bridge along with the second Meghna, and second Meghna-Gumti bridges on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway on January 2016.
The construction work of the bridge has been completed nearly four months ahead of the June 2019 deadline.
