Rohingya children are the world's responsibility: Priyanka

Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra, also Unicef Goodwill Ambassador, briefs media while wrapping up her four-day visit in Bangladesh on Thursday.The global community has to come forward extending all-out support for the Rohingya children and women living in teeming and squalid camps in Bangladesh, says Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra.
"Open your hearts with compassion. Please be sympathetic and treat these children as your own," the UNICEF goodwill ambassador said in Dhaka on Thursday.
Speaking at a news conference to share her four-day visit to camps in southeastern district of Cox’s Bazar, she said “"The world will have to take the responsibility of the Rohingya children.”
Priyanka Chopra arrived Bangladesh on May 21 as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to visit the Rohingyas who fled Myanmar.Chorpa said just six months ago, Rohingya children would draw pictures of bombs, guns and killings— recounting the harrowing experience back home in Myanmar.
“After getting basic educations, like Math and English, in Bangladesh camp, they have changed. Now they draw pictures of sun and the river. They have changed in just six months. Can you believe it? The world needs to think about these children, because they are the future.”
Chopra said that refugee camp was not a new experience for her. “I have visited several camps across the world. And I have many stories to share.”
Asked whether she plans to speak with Myanmar government, the Indian actress said she appeared before the media on “behalf of the children.”
Describing herself as not the right person to discuss on political issues, Chopra said, “What we need to be more concern about is the future of these children.”

‘World needs to learn from Bangladesh’
Bangladesh has set an example on how to respond to the call of humanity, says the India moviestar.
Her remarks came earlier in the day as she met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, reports BSS.
Additional Press Secretary to the PM Nazrul Islam told the media that Chopra praised particularly praised Hasina for shouldering the burden of over a million forcibly displaced ethnic minority population of Myanmar.

The Bollywood actress, however, feared the Rohingya children still were exposed to a hazardous situation in their camps while on behalf of the UN children fund, she called upon international community to extend all out support for the Rohingyas.

The prime minister told Chopra that her government has been making efforts to give the Rohaingyas all support, but it was not possible alone for Bangladesh to mitigate their sufferings and UNICEF and other international agencies should come forward with more support, according to Islam.
Pointing out the government's initiative to relocate the Rohingyas to a safe zone at Bhasanchar the premier they would be able to live there in a better atmosphere.
Hasina said her government gave shelter to the Rohingyas solely on humanitarian ground as people of Bangladesh experienced the same situation in 1971.
She also said about her refugee life abroad after killing of her parents and all but one of the siblings in 1975, saying those incidences taught her to stand beside humanity during their bad time.
