The Election Commission has announced the schedule for the third phase of the Upazila Council polls setting the date on March 24.
The schedule was announced through a gazette notification from the Election Commission on Thursday (Feb 14), EC Joint Secretary (Public Relations) SM Asaduzzaman told Bangla Tribune.
Elections to 127 Upazilas in 25 districts under seven divisions will take place in the third phase.
According to the schedule, Feb 26 is the last day to file nominations and they will be verified on Feb 28. The last date to withdraw candidature is Mar 7.
During this phase, elections will take place in the Upazilas of Chapainawabganj, Rangpur, Magura, Narail, Chuadanga, Satkhira, Kushtia, Meherpur, Jhenaidah, Barishal, Bhola, Jhalokathi, Sherpur, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Gopalganj, Rajbari, Manikganj, Gazipur, Narsingdi, Kishoreganj, Chandpur, Laxmipur, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar.
The first phase of the Upazila polls are scheduled to take place on Mar 10 and the second phase will be held on Mar 18.
Similar to the last time, the polls will be administered in several phases but for the first time the candidates will be contesting under a party banner.
