Celebration of the 24th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Coast Guard on Thursday (Feb 14).The incident of three people being shot to death by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Thakurgaon’s Haripur border is under probe, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
“No one is above the law,” he told the media on Thursday (Feb 14) after the celebration of the 24th founding anniversary of Coast Guard.
“Legal action will be taken against anyone found guilty after the probe,” he added.
Talking about Coast Guard’s contributions, Kamal said that since their establishment, they have managed to nab many illegal activities in the coastal areas despite the limited manpower.
He hoped that they will work towards fulfilling the prime minister’s vision of blue economy.
Responding to queries about modernising the Coast Guard, he said that long-term plans were in place for that.
“Weather capable ships, drones, helicopters, hovercrafts and maritime patrol aircraft and many other modern platforms are in the cards for them to increase their efficiency,” he said.
The minister said that they were planning to hire more manpower to increase surveillance in coastal areas and stamp out smuggling there.
