Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called on the defence forces to play a pioneering role for the benefit of the nation.

“The defence forces will have to play a part in upholding democracy and the constitution,” said the PM at the Mirpur cantonment on Thursday (Feb 7), during a graduation ceremony.

The PM also asked the graduates to perform their duties with integrity and efficiency.

“Once the mention of Bangladesh conjured up images of corruption, natural disasters, privation and suffering; not anymore, today our GDP has risen, communication has improved along with power production, we have entered the satellite age and work is underway to establish a nuclear power plant.”

The PM also underlined the improved lifestyle of the masses.

Calling the decision to construct Padma Bridge with local financing the ‘biggest decision’, the PM said, “This decision has transformed our image to the world.”

We have shown the world that we can also achieve, she added emphatically.

The PM thanked the defence forces for improving communication all over the country.
