Quader-led panel to review wage recommendations for journos

Road transport Minister Obaidul Quader has been made the convener of the seven-member committee, which was formed at the first meeting of the new Cabinet on Monday (Jan 21) with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
This new panel will replace the previously formed five-member committee formed on Dec 9 of last year headed by the cultural affairs minister.
Briefing the media after the meeting, Alam said, “No change has been made to the terms of reference.
“The new panel, however, can bring change to it,” he added.
The other members of the committee are Home Minister Asadiuzzaman Khan Kamal, Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzak, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Information Minister Hasan Mahmud, State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid and State Minister for Munnujan Sufian.
On Jan 29 of last year, the government formed the ninth wage board headed by retired Appellate Division Justice Mohammed Nizamul Huq to set the new pay structure for workers at newspapers and news agencies.
