Rear Admiral AMMM Aurangzeb Chowdhury has been appointed as the new Chief of Naval Staff.
A notification, undersigned by joint secretary SM Abul Kamal Azad of Defence Ministry, was circulated on Sunday (Jan 20).
The notification says, the appointment will come into effect in the afternoon of Jan 26 when Rear Admiral AMMM Aurangzeb Chowdhury will be promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral.
He has been appointed as the Navy chief for one and half years until Jul 25, 2020, it reads.
Aurangzeb Chowdhury, who serves as the director general of coast guard, will succeed Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed who is scheduled to go on post-retirement leave (PRL) from Jan 26.
