BNP is responsible for their own political downfall, according to Information Minister Hasan Mahmud.

His comments came on Sunday (Jan 20) in response to a media query at the capital’s Dhaka Reporters’ Unity.

“BNP’s politics in the last 10 years were not for the people. They were busy with their own agendas. They were focused on their party chief’s release, the return of convicted felon Tarique Rahman and their demand for a neutral administration,” he said before adding, “None of these issues are meant for people’s welfare.”

Mahmud claimed that BNP has managed to place themselves against the people by killing people to serve personal interests.

The information minister promised to be watchful on the use of Digital Security Act, about which the journalist communities have voiced concerns.

On regulations for the online media, he said that work is going on in this regard.
