Mahmood-Kono meeting in Dhaka on Nov 19, 2017.Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali has left Dhaka for Japan on an official invitation to discuss Rohingya and other bilateral issues.
He reached Tokyo on Sunday for the bilateral meeting with his Japanese counterpart Taro Kono Monday.
Mahmood is also scheduled for talks with Japanese ministers for finance and JICA.
This will be their third meeting in the last eight months. Both the ministers had a sideline meeting at the UN General Assembly meeting in September while the Japanese minister paid a visit to Dhaka to discuss Rohingya issue in November.
Rohingya and development are the two focus areas of Bangladesh while it is expected that Japanese side would seek Bangladesh’s support for some upcoming international elections where Tokyo is a candidate.
Japan is campaigning to host international expo at Osaka in 2025 and Russia is also a contender.
Tokyo has also publicly announced that it wanted to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2023-24 period, he said.
