Ministers busy with hustings but keeping contact with ministries

Bangladesh Secretariat. FILE PHOTOThe secretariat is almost empty with the absence of ministers, deputy ministers and top political officials. Now the secretariat is almost empty. As a result, business at the hotels within the secretariat has become sluggish.
Taking this chance, medium and field level workers are completing their tasks; some are going back home before afternoon.
In the upcoming election, everyone except technocrat ministers are taking part and therefore, most are busy with hustings.
One secretary said, “The minister is busy campaigning but this has not stopped any work.”
The minister is also maintaining contact over the phone, added the official.
Though finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith is not taking part in polls, his younger brother is competing. Commerce minister is competing from Bhola-1 and is currently in his constituency for election time publicity.
Local Government Minister Khondokar Mosharraf Hossain and Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid are carrying out their hustings in Faridpur and Sylhet -6.
Law minister Anisul Huq is in Brahmanbaria and information minister Hasanul Huq Inu is in Kushtia.
Senior official of the ministry, Mehedi Hassan, told Bangla Tribune, “Food minister is busy after submitting nomination papers.”
Land minister Shamsur Rahman is in his constituency in Pabna while health minister Mohammad Nasim is in Sirajganj-1.
Water Resources Minister Anwar Hossain is in Pirojpur while fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayan Chandra is in Khulna, textile and jute minister Imajuddin Pramanik in Naogaon.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan is competing from Dhaka-11 (Tejgaon) and is attending office in between election campaign duties.
Cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told Bangla Tribune, “Government work is running normally and while most are busy with their hustings, they are maintaining contact with leading officials at the secretariat.”
