Relieving technocrat ministers of duties likelyThe government has moved to complete the formalities to relieve four technocrat ministers of their duties, says Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam.
“Process to issue the gazette notification has started. A new development will come tonight as some formalities need to finish,” Alam told Bangla Tribune on Sunday (Dec 9).
On Nov 6, four technocrat ministers of the Awami League-led government tendered their resignation to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina following her instruction.
They are Religious Affairs Minister Motiur Rahman, Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc, Science and Technology Minister Yeafesh Osman and Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar.
Their resignations to the premier were then forwarded to the Cabinet Division and again sent back to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for a final approval.
On Saturday (Dec 8), Road Transports Minister Obaidul Quader told the media the Cabinet would have no technocrat members after Dec 9 as their resignation letters were at the PMO.
Approved by the PM, the letters are set to send to the President and the Cabinet Division will issue a circular making it official.
On Dec 3, the incumbent Cabinet hold its last meeting with attending all four technocrat members.
