No open-air celebrations on New Year eve: MinisterThe government has imposed a restriction on open-air celebrations of the Christmas and the 31st night on the eve of New Year 2019 due to the general election.
“No one will be allowed to use any public place, open space or rooftop for the Christmas, which falls on Dec 25, and the New Year celebration on the 31st night due to the national election,” said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
The decision was taken at a meeting at the Home Ministry with Home Minister in the chair on Sunday.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Kamal said, “All bars except five-star hotels’ will remain closed from the afternoon of Dec 31 to the evening of Jan 1.”
“People will not be allowed to hold parties like DJ and set off fireworks on the 31st night for security concerns” he added.
A ban on carrying licensed arms has been imposed during this period.
The minister informed that a four-tier security has been ensured on the occasion of the Christians’ Christmas celebration.
On the Dec 30 national polls, the home boss said as many as 500,000 law enforcement personnel are ready to assist the Election Commission.
“The forces will be provided as per the EC’s will,” Kamal said.
