No scope for further deferment of polls schedule: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda was attend a briefing programme with returning officers in Dhaka on Tuesday (Nov 13).Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda said that there is no scope to defer polls schedule again.
His remarks came during a briefing with returning officers in Dhaka on Tuesday (Nov 13).
“The Election Commission had initially set Dec 23 as the election date but later pushed it back by a week to Dec 30 and now there is no possibility of rescheduling election again.”

Saying that there no scope to delay the election further, he added: “after the results, gazette will have to be declared which will take time.”
On top, the Biswa Iztema is on Jan 11, he added.
“During the Iztema, law enforcers need to be brought from all over the country as a deterrent against any violence.”
Addressing returning officers, he said: “this election will be different; in the past, elections were either held under military monitoring or by the caretaker government.”
He expressed happiness to the fact that this election will be participatory.
Election has to be free, fair and neutral, said the CEC adding: “there has to be an atmosphere of joy and celebration on the day of voting and afterwards.”
“This time, it will be proved that fair election can be held with the government in power.”
He also exhorted the poll time election officers to show zero tolerance to corrupt practices.
