The justice system has reached a new milestone after the verdict of the Aug 21 grenade attack, said Attorney General (AG) Mahbubey Alam.
“There were many conspiracies to foil the legal proceedings in this case but justice has prevailed,” he told the media on Wednesday (Oct 10).
“It is a remarkable achievement in the history of Bangladesh as well as the judiciary,” he added.
He compared the Aug 21 grenade attack to the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre adding: “The attack was not a random act of terrorism but an act fueled by political vengeance which was meant to wipe out Sheikh Hasina and members of her party.”
The AG said that the attack exemplifies the fatal consequences of unfettered political vendetta.
He added that the then leader of opposition, Sheikh Hasina was lucky to have narrowly escaped the attack.
“We are satisfied with the verdict,” Alam said adding that they will move the High Court for an appeal if they find evidence that any of the other convicts deserve the death penalty.
