The Cabinet has approved a draft of the Narcotics Control Act 2018, incorporating provisions of capital punishment for producing, trafficking, distributing and use of over 5gm of yaba or 25gm of heroin or cocaine.
The Cabinet approved the draft at its regular meeting on Monday (Oct 8) with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Speaking to media after the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Md Shafiul Alam said, “New draft of 28-year-old law has been prepared complying with other international laws on drug.”
“The draft incorporates a provision of maximum 25 years and minimum 2 years in prison for carrying less than 25gm ‘A’ category drug that includes heroin and cocaine,” Alam said.
