The decision on inclusion of non-government educational institutions in monthly pay order (MPO) scheme will be finalised within October this year with the consent of prime minister, says Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid.
“No institution has been brought under MPO facility since 2010 and we can’t do so without the finance ministry’s approval,” Nahid told the House on Sunday (Sept 16).
Responding to a question from ruling lawmaker AKM Jahangir Hossain, the minister said, “We’ve been requesting the finance ministry to allocate funds for quite some time. The finance minister has agreed and allocated some funds too.”
“The government has already issued circular setting criteria for MPO enlistment. Possible institutions will apply online, followed by verification process.
“Specific criteria to enjoy MPO scheme will be finalised within next month with the PM’s consent,” said Nahid.
Nahid, however, couldn’t clarify the number of institutions, to be enlisted in MPO facility.
“We are trying to increase (the number of institutions),” he said.
