Students and job-seek demonstrate in Dhaka’s Shabag area in demand of raising the age limit for getting into government jobs on Jan 29, 2016. FILE PHOTORaising the age limit for getting into government jobs are on the cards, says Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam.
“The discussion is ongoing. The existing age limit is 30 and in case of Freedom Fighters’ children 32,” he told the media after the weekly Cabinet meeting.
A parliamentary panel recently recommended increasing the age limit to 35 years and the retirement age to 65 years from the existing 59 years.
On Monday, the Cabinet cleared the Public Employment Act 2018, with provision of securing prior clearance for arresting a public servant on corruption charges.
“The new law keeps the age of retirement to 59 and for Freedom Fighters 60. The law stipulates that a public servant can retire after 25 years of service, if he or she wants. Likewise, the administration can also send an official to retirement after 25 years,” said Cabinet Secretary Alam.
In 2015, the Cabinet initially approved the Act, which was then sent to the law ministry for vetting.
In November 2016, the ministry forwarded it to the Cabinet Division after clearing the law.
